Server Architecture: First Online Test Successful

August 26, 2026 — SoE Communications

It worked. On August 26 a group of developers and invited testers connected from four different countries to a single hosted world, saw each other move in real time, fought the same monsters, and traded items. For a project that has spent months as a single-player-looking prototype with a network layer bolted underneath, watching a second character walk over the hill was a genuinely emotional moment for the team.

The test ran for a little over two hours. Movement replication was smooth, combat registered correctly for all participants, and the session survived a deliberate mid-test server restart with players reconnecting into their saved positions. We saw latency spikes when several players attacked the same target at once (the threat calculation is doing far too much work per tick), and one zone handoff dropped a client. Both are now tracked and scheduled.

This is the milestone that turns Stroll of Eternity from a game we are building into a world we can invite people into. The next tests will widen the group and start stressing the economy rather than the renderer. If you want to be in one of those sessions, join the Discord and register for the beta, since invitations go out from that list.
